Axle ratio
Axle ratio
Hey guys looking at buying 1994 2500 4x4 man. 5.9. and wanted to know the axle ratio. I hope its got 3.73 I'm going to be using it on a food trailer route part of the time and mpg would help. and also what kind of mileage will I get with the current axle ratio..
All that was available from the factory during the 2nd generation years were 3.55 and 4.10. Only way to know for sure is to either look at the metal tag on the rear axle (if it is still there) or check the sticker inside the glove box, it will list the axle ratio which will be the same for both front and rear axles.
3.73 was not available until 2003 with the 3rd gens.
You should have a Dana 70 axle in the rear, and a Dana 60 in the front. Aftermarket gears are plentiful, and if you want 3.73's you can get them. You'll just have to change both sets at the same time however.
