Question Auto vs. Manual

What do you guys think about swapping in a manual in place of my stock 94' auto. The other option is a built auto, but they cost so darn much. Any ideas on cost vs. simplicity?

a built auto and a DD clutch are pretty close to the same price. a DD clutch is gonna need a billet input shaft, i paid $3500 for mine. if it gonna be your daily driver do the auto

$2500 and one weekend worth of work transformed my 1996 47RE automatic to a NV4500 work horse. The only time I even think about the automatic days is when I'm sitting in traffic

If your tranny is decent already, throw a good converter, and VB in it, and you will love it then. $1600 or so, and it will be a whole new truck.

For me I love my 5sp. But I do want to race my truck against all my buddies and it slows it down. If I had a choice I would choose a good built auto. It all come down to what you want to do. Race/sled pull DD go with the auto, work or tow go with a man.

i would if its mainly for use on the street go with a manual, but if you want to do drag racing, sled pulling or any of that auto is the way to go.

generally. stock for stock...a stock manual will outpull a stock auto no problem...it will lay down more power...a performance automatic is just more practical than a dual disk clutch manual on the street...an auto will also shift faster and will blow the doors off a manual at the track...i like the idea of being in control of gears and all the nifty tricks that come with a manual...so im gonna go manual on the next truck....i just think that ur wasting alot of the low end grunt the cummins develops with an automatic..drop it in gear with a manual and ur making something like 350 lb feet of torque right off idle..with an auto u can potentially lay down good power providing ur TC actually multiplies torque ...with a manula 1st gear is like what 5.7?..with an auto its somehting silly like 2.5...and these TC's do not mupltiply 2.5X like TCs potentially could...and last time i checked the stock TC is only 70% efficient ...so unless ur locked...at best ur layign down 70% of ur power...anyways im just angry at the cheapness of the stock TC
