another belt wasted

Looks like i will be replacing another belt. The first looked pretty worn and I really don't know it's age but then one I replaced it with on has about 7000 miles on. After I had about 2,000 miles on the new belt I had my brakes worked on and the said that they had got that my belt was miss aligned. But the belt is chewed all to hell now. It was making a kind of cherping noise. It was kind of off and on. I thought it might be rubbing on one side because only the front of the belt is chewed up so I am wondering if it has become miss aligned and rubbing on somthing. But I can't really see all that well. Has anyone else had this problem. -Anthony

Re:another belt wasted

These belts chirp quite a bit when you shut down because the CTD stops quicker than all the components running on the belt. I have no answer for your bad wear though sorry. I think I see even worse than you from here 8)

Re:another belt wasted

yz,

Check your idler pully for play.

Later, Rob

BTW, the "chirp" is typicly on the slushboxes, the manuals have more mass to spin after shutdown, and typicly don't chirp.

Re:another belt wasted

It looks to me that the belt tensioner has tons of play. I think that because it has so much play in the tensioner that it is rubbing up against part of the tensioner. So hopfully this fixes the problem. -Anthony

Re:another belt wasted

YZ, I have read a couple posts by other owners with the belt eating problem. The cause was alignment problems from failing tension roller.

Jerry

If you buy the tensonier from Cummins, I think its $98. The dealer may be half again that much.
Michael
