How do you adjust? Turn it in or out? Is it behind a "Cover" on the back of the pump?

There is a cover on the back of the AFC. It has a break off screw that you have to get around, but not too hard to get off. Once off there is a stud that you will use a torx driver (15 if I remember right) You loosen the locknut and turn the screw in to increase smoke (fuel). Tighten nut back up and away you go.
