Amsoil 4510?

Is anyone running an Amsoil 4510 instead of the standard BHAF? They're not much more at $50 and claim to be cleanable, plus you can get a prefilter for it for an extra $18.60.

I've heard you need a PVC adapter and clamps from the hardware store, but are there any other disadvantages or advantages? Any info on installation is greatly appreciated.

I swapped my BHAF for one a while back. PVC adapter and clamp is all you need. It supposedly flows more air and you'll hear the turbo some more.

There was quite a long thread on 'Cummins Forum' regarding the Amsoil 4510.

Seems a few people were experiencing failures, the filter allowing dirt to pass.

I had one I was running on an AEM Workhorse, I removed the filter and swabbed the intake pipe with a white t-shirt, not one single trace of dust!

I still have it, and intend to use it for a spare, while waiting for my AFE to dry.

I poked around over on the Cummins Forum for quite awhile and the only Amsoil failures I found were with the drop in filters. It was a little confusing since people were talking about drop-ins and BHAF alternatives in the same posts, but nobody was directly complaining about a 4510.

Does anyone have dimensions of a 4510 compared to a BHAF? I already have a nice heat shield for my BHAF, and will need to replace the filter one of these days. If I can get a washable filter that perfoms as well as the BHAF for about the same price, I'd be all over it.

Anyone have pros or cons? Is this the new greatest thing?

I've been runnning my 4510 for a year now and love it, but my opinion would be jaded since the 4510 is all I have personal experience with on this truck. Going from stock to open element anything is a drasitc improvement.
