Air intake heater time and remote start question.

Let’s say it’s below 15*, I turn my ignition key on and the wait to start light comes on as it should. The air intake heater comes on and after about 15 seconds the wait-to-start light goes out. If the key is left on (not cranked over) will the air intake heater continue to heat or does it shut off along with the wait-to-start light. The reason I ask is I just had a remote start installed on the truck and the tech that installed it set it to wait 30 seconds before it would crank so it would “warm the heater a little longer” before start to help on the really cold days. The remote starter can also be set to crank as soon as the wait-to-start light goes out which would nicer for most days. If I’m not gaining anything (besides more battery drain) by waiting 30 seconds I’ll just have it set to start after the wait-to-start light goes out. Thanks for any input.

in the manuel i was reading one time i think it said after that light goes off then thats all the heat you will get, you would have to turn the key off and turn it on again to cycle it again. dont quote me though..someone else pipe in

^That's how I understood it too, because I've noticed the interior lights dim only when the wait-to-start light is on.

That's the impression I get from my manual. It doesn't come right out and say that but it makes more sense to me than the heaters staying on some undetermined amount of time after the wait-to-start light going out.

if its quiet you can hear it kick off when the "wait to start" light kicks off i read that it turns off in my shop book so by waiting another 15sec for the autoremote to start it is actually losing heat thats how im understanding it you would want to start it as soon as the light shuts off

Yes, the heaters shut off when the light goes out, they will stay on for up to 30 seconds depending on the temp outside. I know i have to cycle my key at least twice on the colder days to get mine to fire up.

It never occurred to me it might actually be losing heat by waiting so long. Also if it doesn't start on the first try it will make a second attempt which would cycle the heater again. Thanks for the replies, I'm going to set it up to start when the wait-to-start light goes out.
