Read this 12 Valve Timing
Sounds like the previous folks used the guesstimate method.

i have 2 versions of the dodge repair manual, both seem to only give enough direction to 5.9/ Is is safe to assume that 6.0 mmw ould be 14 degrees?
i doubt i will be doing the timing on my own, after the mess i made with the gsk, but was just curious.

I've also been preparing to do the timing and am very confused.

I have the 2174 CPL engine ('96). This: http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/timing.htm refers to a "green box" and that 2022 should be stamped as 2174... This: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1996/18-11-96.htm has different specs for the 2174 (which is the same as 2022?) - 4.70mm vs 4.61 @ 15 degrees.

What does all this mean? Should the 2174 engine be set to 4.70 or to 4.61 mm @ 15 degrees?

Thanks
Vic

My chart says 4.70mm. You'd be hard pressed to notice that half degree difference anyhow.

Thanks. I was shooting for 4.7 but ended up with 4.67/8 after everything was said and done. Didn't feel like going through the whole procedure again so left it at that...
