adjusting the throttle linkage
adjusting the throttle linkage
I broke the linkage (guess from wear, and have heard of several other stories) that goes from the throttle cable, to the back of the pump. It's the steel threaded rod that is adjustable. When i replaced the part, i tried to line the old one up as best as possible to get a length, and tried to get the new one to the same exact length. I found a website giving a description on how to adjust it properly (swear it was on this site, but cannot find it for anything), and it said to adjust it to where there is 5"s of distance from the mounting ball where the cruise hooks on, to the cable mounting bracket. I adjusted it to that point, and everything is much worse hit the cruise, truck goes to WOT, before adjustment the truck would just slowly continue to accel with cruise on, also T/c lockup was hit/miss before adjustment, now its just non existant unless at WOT.
Anyone know the correct procedure for this linkage?

5" is correct. Measure from the center of the throttle cable ball stud to the bracket that the cables go through. Then you need to check your TPS voltage, it should be about 1v at idle and about 3.5-4 volts at wot. If it's not very close you may need to replace it. You are only allowed like 1 mm deviation from the 5" measurement to get the TPS voltage in spec.
Check out figure 11 here>

got the new TPS on, and double checked the distance between bellcrank and cable bracket, still no lockup unless at near or WOT and still goes WOT when cruise control is applied.... I'm wanting to find what's wrong with this instead of knocking out the metal inserts and making it adjustable, i have a feeling that would void the warranty on it, and i don't want to pay that 170 bucks again...
anyone have any ideas???
