What kind of MPG should I be getting on a 1997 Stock Auto 35 gallon tank? Highway and around town (Pittsburgh Pa). MPG on the Highway isn't too bad about 15, I think. Around town terrible, I'm at a 1/4 tank left and only 350 miles. Any suggestions. I was told it should be getting Higher MPG. Thanks

 

Try adjusting the valves, maybe bump the timing up a little. New fuel filter, and make sure the tires are aired up properly. Little things make big differences when you are talkinf mpg on a 7000# truck.

 

17 on the hwy but mine is a 5 speed. Of coarse this is empty loaded I bet I don't get 12.

 

I get 18 around town and 21 on the highway at 65-70 in my 97 5spd.

 

I get 16 to 18 on the highway and about 10 in town. You should be above me with no mods!

 

Thanks for the info. I planned on doing the fuel filter soon. What air pressure in the tires are you running?
