How do you find if your block is the infamous block #53? Thanks Pete

 

Climb underneath the truck, look under the power steering pump on the block itself. If you have one it'll be right there "53".

 

Left side of the block, at the front corner, right above the oil pan rail. And you won't find it on your 97, if that's what you're looking at. 53 blocks started in 98, on the 12 valves, but apparently it wasn't a problem until the 24 valves.
