98 slow to crank, shut off after hard run...
??? I just read the latest thread on the slow to crank problem but not sure if the answers apply to my truck. My old 92 would fire with the first crank, but the 98 has always been a bit slow. Recently it seems harder to get cranked, even when I give her a little gas. Just turns over more than normal, and the weather here is NOT cold...80's or so. I just turned over 105k, and was coming in from a long haul with the horse trailer, 400 miles total, but only 200 since the last start up, I dropped off the highway, dropped into N, and the whole thing shut down! Made it tough to get the rig stopped! Gave me a good scare, but she cranked back fine, and drove on in. Are these problems related? The oil guage has been funky for quite sometime, just haven't had it worked on yet (will drop pressure when going from running hard to stop) and again, hope these are not all related.

A word of thanks to you all, on the 5th gear problem I had in the past. I lost 3 of them (fixed with the stupid dealer fix of locktite) and finally convinced the dealership to do the fully splined main shaft fix (Blumenthalls) they never heard of it!! The last lock tite fix only lasted 5k, but I'm going on 6k now with no problems yet (just alot of money out of pocket) The tried to tell me I couldn't haul in 5th, and I was lugging it...please, I've hauled trailers for the last 15 years and kinda know where rpms are supposed to be... :

If anyone has any suggestions on what to get looked at about the starting or shutting off things, I'd appreciate it. I am nowhere near mechanically inclined, so I have to pay a local shop to do the work for me. Or if anyone can recommend a place near Aiken SC or Augusta GA to work on it, that would be great. No more dealerships for me!

Re:98 slow to crank, shut off after hard run...
Check two things for the hard start/stalling.
- check the rubber fuel supply/return lines at the back of the pump
- Make sure that the idle is adjusted high enough. A low idle will cause both symptoms.
