Are 97's really worth this?
I looked at some trucks with average miles (120-150K), but they were trucks with 120-150K miles on them and it showed. There are few other vehicles in the world where one would even think about buying it with 150K miles and driving it for years after that.
My truck had 45K miles on it and it showed. The guy loved his truck, and was a snowbird pulling a 5th wheel once a year to AZ. He had dealer service records for every oil change, tire receipts etc. That was the truck I was looking for and was willing to pay the extra $$ for it.
I don't know if those were what you were trying to sell, or if it was a 96 with 150K or 180K miles. Those are pretty common.
I just bought the truck in my sig for $9800 from a private party here in MN. I don't think it was a stellar deal - but definitely fair. Unlike many of the diesel trucks around here this one doesn't appear to have been a work truck for a construction crew so it wasn't all beat to hell. It is also already setup to run WVO with a heated tank and lines, etc (which could be good or bad I guess?) and I love the idea of this although I am not completely sold on actually taking advantage of it yet.
In all honesty I wasn't specifically shopping for a CTD or even a 12V - but I have been looking for a 4x4 xcab long box truck with a diesel and this one the first one I found that seemed like a fair deal in my price range. Before making the final decision I did some research and I was really pleased to see that 12V CTD seem to be almost bulletproof and come with less likelihood of the potentially expensive problems some of the others may have including the 24V trucks and the Duramaxes (lift pumps, injectors, etc). The one drawback that I can see is the auto tranny - but I guess nothing is perfect.
