That was the final selling price. Tax and license were extra. And, no it wasn't crazy. The $18.5k was crazy. That was high book at the time. It needed some work that they would have to do to justify getting it. Chances are, they would have wholesaled it. They were hoping to land a fish. Then, I offered cash on the last business day of the month, cash... ready to start paying the bills due after the 1st of the month with. They squawked and hollered and tried everything they could think of to get more out of me. I wouldn't budge. I was the one that landed the fish.

I've noticed pricing on 12v CTD has gone up in general in the last 8 months that I've been looking regularly on autotraders.

it really depends upon seller... it's normal to get 5-8K difference for close to same truck on autotraders. main drawback is adds have already been running in local bargain post, so the really good deals are gone by the time it's posted on web.

here's a few priced under $9k, mileage 160k - 400k miles

In Az, I've seen many cummins being priced as much as 5000 over KBB.

admin edit for language

KBB is at the best a guideline, in the real world the numbers are normally different.

I bought my 2000 last july with 136k for 13,800. It's not a 12v but I think that was a decent deal.

Seems like most rams go for higher than the bluebook around here. Maybe I got lucky.

Is that a 4x4? Your signature doesn't appear to say one way or the other?

I bought truck no. 2 in signature this past January for under $10K from a private party 80+ years of age. He had bought it new in Idaho to pull a camper, but got sick and didn't do much of that.

It really seems to depend on what part of the country the truck is for sale in. I bought my '98 QC 12-valve with 140k back in February from a dealer near Detroit. It had been sitting on his lot for over a year, and he was desperate to move it due to extemely slow sales in general. The trouble was it was a 2wd truck in snowy Michigan, but 2wd was exactly what I wanted. The previous owner took it to Nevada every winter, so it is rust free. I offered him $9750 over the phone and he accepted. When I picked it up he showed me paperwork where he paid $10k for it, so he took a loss. If that same truck had been for sale in Arizona, it would have gone pretty fast.

it is funny when some one asks what some thing is worth. to me it may be x but to you it may be double that. it got me to thinking, i would not take less than 14k for my 97 with 268k on it. but i have spent a lot of money upgrading the truck also. i hate to think how much i have in the nv5600 and the southbend dual disk.

Local used car lot had a 97 5spd 4x4 CC dually on the lot for $16,900.
90k miles. Clean and rust free.
It didn't last a day.
They have a 95 5spd 4x4 CC LB SRW with 195k miles on it.
A little rusty, needs new tires and a bunch of other stuff. Brakes etc, never turned up.
For the last 40 k it looks like it's just been driven and not much else.
Decent interior.
They offered it to me for 8k.
I left it.

Both are 4x4's, I'm surprised I left that out of the sig, good catch.

I don't know what some of the private partys were ending up selling them for, but they wouldn't take my blue book offers. The truck I finally bought the owner said he wanted high blue book (I verified it was) and he said he won't take a penny less. He had phone calls from guys in Idaho, and Montana and it was first come first serve, just bring your cashiers check.
It was a rare truck and worth the money to me. When I saw it, it truly looked like it just drove off of the showroom. Like I said earlier, those trucks are hard to come by and thats why there is high blue book.
As for going over KBB, thats a tough call.

Thats not always true. I've had my truck sittin here in the classifieds for around a month and it's below KBB. I have only had 2 people email me, I sent my number and no call backs. Go figure.

i got the truck in my sig a little less then a year ago. i paid $10,800 for the truck, with the lift, tires, and a little motor work done, the interior is/was spotless, paint is perfect, no dents, only thing that it needed was starter contacts. it had 106,xxx on the clock, and the only reason i got it for so cheap, was the fact that the guy was a marine and getting deployed to iraq in less then a week, and didnt want the truck sitting for a year or more. i paid $700 to have it shipped to my front door. so all in all i got the truck for $11,500. within the first week i had it, i had a guy offer me double what i paid, and i sent him walking. i guess its more preference, how deep your pockets are, and how far your willing to reach into them for somthing you want.

Up here in westeren Canada it is not uncommon to see a 1997 X cab listed for up to $20,000 private sale, and i can garantee it is not in as good shape and has way more miles on it as you would think for that price.

I bought my 94 reg cab 4x4 with 335,000km for $6900 and i feel I got a good deal.

Naw, there's always a truck in that price range. I'd look for a 12v if I were you.
