97 Rearend question

I was looking under the hood tonight and noticed a little sticker that said my rear end was a dana 80, but i was under the assumption that my truck came with the 70. The truck is a 97 2500 2wd extended bed. Also was contemplating the idea of a limited slip/locker diff and was wondering what kind to get and where is a good place to pick one up

if it is an 80 it was say 80 somewhere on the housing, or if its a 70, it will say 70 somewhere on it. Kinda limited on locker selections for the 80 , there are a few not many though, not sureabout the 70, search yahoo or google , youll come up with a locker for it.

A 5 spd came with the 80. You can get a detroit locker for the 80. One is not specifically made for it, but there are lockers made for the dana 70 HD. What they do is drill the ring gear bolt holes out bigger because the bolts in the 80 are bigger. If you get the detroit locker, it is a complete carrier replacement, and as such will require the rearend to be set up again to the right tolerances. I love mine-it has really good street manners-no ratcheting around turns at all.

You can get an ARB for the Dana 80 as well.

You would have to drill the holes out to 37/64ths no taping.

Give your local Dodge dealer a call (part's department) and give them the last 8 digits of your vin# and they can tell you which one you have.

Reider Racing will drill out a HD70 for you if you buy it from them. The cost is 50 or so, not too bad. reiderracing.com
