I took my winnebego into a diesel shop yesterday because it seemed low on power. Its a 96 pusher with a 93 5.9 190 hp engine with the p-7100 pump. Timing was at 14.7* and valves checked real close. They opened up hi-idle screw and said it should run up over 3000 rpm,s before defuling with that adjustment but it still seems to defuel at 2400. They thought this would be as effective as a 3000 rpm gov spring, but apparently not. They also ground off a little off the stock plate and slid it about a millimeter towards radiater and said that should give me about 20 more hp.I really didn,t notice much difference in power but didn,t want to get crazy with the stock exhaust and no gages. It has an exhaust brake on it and doesn,t work. Could it possibly be stuck partly closed robbing me of power? Its got an allison 542 4-sp trans without lock-up and it seems pretty lose. Any suggestions? Thanks,Rod.
