95 ?'s
95 ?'s
I'm looking at a 95 4wd auto with 155K on it. Are the 95 autos hyd or electrically controlled? Also do the 95's have a computer, if so what does it control if the injection is mechanical? What are some problem areas to look for on these year models?
'95 used a 47RH, which is a hydraulicaly governed trans. It utilizes electrical OD and TC lock-up solenoids, but that is it. The PCM does not control any engine functions, it does, however control many of the rest of the truck's electronics....
With 155K on the clock, that auto may or may not be tired, but most likely it is getting there. Other issues are the killer dowel pin, of which there are plenty of threads here to read about it, cracked front shock towers. The biggest problem being the trans, when....not if....you bomb the truck. The early 2nd gen auto REALLY do not like hopping up the mill at all, so be ready for several grand worth of trans upgrads to get serious in the horsepower arena. Otherwise, I love my 12 valve and it will be hard to part me with my mechanically injected engine.

The computer on a '95 controls the OD shift, the torque converter lockup, the alternator charging rate and the grid heater cycle. I think that is all.
The tranny is hydraulically controlled BUT the computer still controls the OD shift and converter lockup.

I'm sure this applied to all '95s and will be done free of charge no matter how many owners or miles the truck has.
I love my 95. The trans will need work if you hop it up. The only thing I would change if I could do it over. Is spend the money on a tranny from a reputable shop. And put a bigger pump in it, I am still searching for that.
