94-95 vs. 96-98

A couple people now have recommended the 96-98 trucks over the 94-95 trucks, but when asked, they admit they are basing this advice on hearing the same advice from others, not on any known problems. So is there any real reason to stick with the 96-98's or is this baloney? (BTW, if I get a 12V, the goal will be max power - twins, nitrous, etc.) Thanks.
Chris

You'll get a little more HP outta the shoot with the 96-98 basically other the a few more ponies the big change came with the 98.5 models....they refine each model years a little bit but not much it cost big money to change the manufacturing process

94-95 Pumps were lower HP 175-160
95-98 Pumps 5 spd 215 HP - Auto 180 HP
The inj. smaller also.
You can get more ponies from 215 pumps , whereas if you go with baby pumps you must spend big bucks to get there.
After a point to gain you must spend big bucks on 215 pumps also but can go alot farther without spending it.

Hope this helps,

: Eddie : 8)

Re:94-95 vs. 96-98

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll be looking at an auto, anyway, so I guess it really doesn't matter then, since I'll be going to the 215 pump anyway, right? Is it any easier to convert a 96-98 auto to the 215 than a 94-95 auto? Or would it actually be cheaper to get the 96-98 stick and convert to auto? Thanks again!
Chris

The 94-95's have 47RH (hydralic shift) auto trans. The 96-98 have 47RE (electronic shift). Neither one can take more than mild HP increases. The '98 12V 5-speeds are the most sought after from what I hear.

GO 4LO:

I agree with what "paapyman" and "bullthisl" have already
told you. The "215" (now called the "913&quot pumps do have
more "potential" for BOMBING than the 160 or 180 pumps
due primarily to the cam they have in them. However,
diesel performance shops such as: Piers Diesel Research,
Scheid Diesel, Van Haisley or Mitchell Performance CAN
take a 160 or 180 H.P. pump and set them up to put out
tremendous power! Scheid Diesel set my "little" 180 H.P.
pump up and last year I ran 508 H.P./1300 Torque on their
Mustang Dynamometer. "bullthisl" rode in my truck recently
so I will let him tell you how it runs. My "fueling level" is
down somewhat since that run, due to high EGT's while
towing my racing trailer, but I am still in the neighborhood
of 450 H.P.

Anyway, good luck on your purchase and on the BOMBING!
The 12 valve trucks are very good vehicles and the fuel
pump (P7100) is TOUGH!!

--------
John_P

Re:94-95 vs. 96-98

Another big difference is in the trans .... the 94-95 have hydraulic trans and the 96 - present are electronic ....

GO4 LO ;
John P's truck rocks !!!!!!
I rode in it and I can tell you that it's great.
I'm still trying to get the smile off my son's ( Micah ) face.

I didn't mean to say the smaller pumps couldn't make the HP.
But that the 215 would go a little further than the others in thier stock form.
The others can do it with some mods for sure.
As for your question about trucks. If your planning to bomb your pump anyway buy the auto and spend the bucks to bomb it correctly.
If you buy the stick with the 215 sounds like your still going to bomb the pump. Then you won't have to switch trannys . All you will have to do is bomb the one you have.

But the most important thing is GET GAUGES BEFORE YOU DO ANY BOMBING !!!!!

Good Luck and Have Fun

Sounds like your on the right track.

: Eddie : 8)
Re:94-95 vs. 96-98

Thanks, guys! I'm trying to decide between a '96-'98 or a new '03. If I get the '03, I'd want to leave it stock so I have a warranty on one of my vehicles . The 12V truck would be getting bombed for sure, though. Sounds like the auto is the way to go, then. Thanks again for the advice!
Chris
