I installed a 6 speed trans in my 96 Ram, needed some help with a new shift boot on the interior. The old stick was larger than the new stick. Has anyone done this and how did they resolve this issue?

 

hey richard id love to hear how the whole peoject went for you because id love to stick a 6 spd into my 94 as well. something bout topping out at 70 mph just kills it for me.

 

thats a rear end ratio problem

the 6spd shares the same basic od ratio as the 5 spd. 5spd has a .75:1 OD the 6spd is .73:1 OD not much of a difference. 6 spd's benefit is between 3rd and 4th it adds a gear in there to break up the wound out 3rd gear syndrome.

 

So far So good, the mechanicals it seams were the easy part. The transmission installed just if I was replacing the clutch. The trans crossmember needed to be updated to a wider one. The front and rear driveshafts had to be reworked. The only thing is the old shifter boot is larger then the new stick. The transfer manual shifter came with a new bracket. I really dont like the way the bracket works it seams as if the shifter is too loose. I am trying to update the shifter console with that of a later model. The manual shifter for 4x4 is mounted to the floor board, so I was going to try to purchase the updated supplies and rework. The only thing is I really don't know what the interior of a newer truck looks like. Other than the interior truck runs fine, shifts great, no more clutch chatter and shaking. If I can figure out how to install the new boot and 4x4 shifter I will be very happy with the whole conversion
