4wheel drive stick vibrating
Hey guys, got a 97 3500 with 37,000 miles and 4:10 gears, auto. The 4 Wheel Drive sticks makes a very slight vibrating noise when I hold the Accelerator steady. If I push forward on the stick towards 2H and apply some pressure to the stick, it stops.
Everything is working fine, just wondering if this is a symptom of anything or normal?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

this is what I did to mine with a spring from a pair of hand pruning loppers instead of the Mitsubishi spring, works excellent.
For a long time I used a hair ponytail band stretched between the lever and a screw under the dash. The color even matched the dash.
Worked great, only problem was my daughter kept asking for it back.

Wow! I didn't expect this to be such a known problem.
Thanks for the quick replies guys, I appreciate it. I think I'll give the spring fix a try.
Thanks again

I want to do the spring fix, but after looking at the instructions a few times I'm just not getting it.
Do I take off the boot and do it from the cab, or only underneath. I found the area that the original fix says to bend outwards, but I can't figure out where to put the spring.
Also, can I buy a spring instead of using the Chrysler one? Anyone know the overall length of it?
Thanks

You do it from underneath.
From instructions, (i don't know how to describe it any better)
You could use a hardware store spring.
The one I used was about 1/2" in diameter and about 3/4" long after I cut it to length. A 3/8" bolt would fit though the center.
As far as springiness, wild guess is it was medium but the exhaust bolt springs used in the link are very hard to compress between your fingers.

"Insert spring between the shifter and the mounting bracket at the bottom, so that the tensioner spring already on the shifter unit captures the new spring, that is, keeps it in place with the stub ends of the tensioner that stick through the shifter and bracket."
