47RE auto intermittent harsh 1st to 2nd shift

I have read through the auto trans troubleshooting guide with no clear identification of possible cause. Only multiple possibilities or combinations. The trans fluid is clean and full in my 96 and the transmission performs flawlessly including OD and lockup. I checked the adjustment of the TV cable and it is perfect. The issue is intermittent rough or harsh shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. All other gear shift are fine. It is more prevalent under light throttle but even then not always. Any ideas?

Read over this post info...same part is in your 47RE auto, sounds like you may have the same problem.

could be the bands, easy to adjust. I have the 47RH mechanical and it used to shift harsh, the engine kinda rev'ed between gears and slammed into 2nd harsh when in parking lots. Band adjsutment fixed it right up, smooth as glass now- it still does the 1-2 shift before 10mph though

If that doesn't get it try adding a tube of LubeGard black> http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-177/LUBE...ATF+Supplement

Thanks guys. I will start with the band adjustment and go from there

Bill - Looks like 1 oz per quart of the LubeGard black so approx 16 oz for the 47RE total fluid capacity. Sound right? Have you used that in your trans and if so, what have you noticed after using?

I used two bottles with Dexron III ATF once and it made the shifts too mushy for my liken'.
One bottle is about perfect for crisp shifts.

When under heavy throttle my 2-3 and 3-2 shifts are so soft i cant tell if its doing a downshift or if im slipping the crap out of my trans I think im slppping things as my band on the outside of the trans is so worn that the lock nut barly has threads these days
