4" Power Elbow/Downpipe
4" Power Elbow/Downpipe
My truck is a 97 12v that was the CARB EGR model. With all the mods, the exhaust temps would not go over 800 degrees. About a month ago, I put on the 60mm hybrid kit on the stock HX35. Now the exhaust temps will go over 1350 if running it hard with no trailer. Would a 4" elbow and downpipe reduce the temp? The only kit I saw was from banks that fits the 24v, does anyone make a for the 12v? Thanks for the help!
Increasing the exhaust flow out of the engine (assuming that you're at your maximum capacity of your current setup) should always drop EGTs. I see in your sig that you have a 4" exhaust, does that not include the downpipe? That should certainly be upgraded, as it's one of the most important parts of the system.
Assuming that the Banks pieces are for a 2nd gen, the 12v and 24v turbos are basically the same, and the downpipe will interchange as well. Most people here don't really like Banks products because they are over priced, and I have to agree. Get a 4" down pipe from a source of your choice, and don't bother upgrading the elbow off the turbine unless you plan on never upgrading the turbo itself.

It has 4" exhaust, it just gets smaller where it attaches to the turbo. I am happy with the hybrid and will most likely leave it, probably the single most noticeable increase in power out of all the mods and the price was not bad. Spent 250 for the wheel/housing and a local guy milled out the plate for $20.
I thought the turbos were the same, called banks about it and was told the backplates were different. Looking at the specs at http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/96specs.html, it shows the trucks having the same turbos. Do you know who else makes the back plate with downpipe besides banks?
The EGR intake was the first thing to go. Actually just sold it on Ebay for a penny.
