215 injectors

My dad has a 97 CTD with a auto. he is wanting to know if he would gain anything by putting in 215 injectors in his truck? He has guages, a #8 fuel plate, BHAF, 4 in. exhaust, and 3gsk. Pros and cons of the 215 injectors for his truck. Thanks

215's will definately give him more HP. On the con side, the trans isn't going to like them much. My TC went the first time I loaded up my camper and pulled a boat up to the lake.

215s are good for around 35 to 40 hp in his truck. the auto may live with the #8 plate. but i have seen converters lay down with just a #100 plate. the stall just keeps getting higher and higher.

exactly what i said, it used to stall, as in rev up to 2500 from a dead stop, now it will rev to 2900. it was a rebuilt tranny and i am sure they used the cheapest converter they could get. i bet it has bent the vains in it.

I have a 95 4x4 that has 110k miles on it and it has #10 plate , 3 k governor kit, 17.5 deg timing, and 215 injectors with a stock transmission. I have adjusted the governor arm also. I sloted the afc housing and modified the afc housing as I was told by a fellow a few years ago to gain a little power.
I used the thin washers also under the injectors that came in the kit. I have not had any problems with the transmission yet but I dont hot rod the truck. I made a bracket to give me more pressure at low throttle angles. This also raised the shifts points. I would never buy automatic truck again.... But it is holding up at what ever the hp is now. The truck starts good and gets good mileage.
The 215 injectors were the last thing I changed on the truck. They did not hurt mileage. The truck seems to pull better at higher rpms. To be honest I dont use that a lot because it DOES NOT interest me. The 215 injectors have more power than the 160 hp injectors that I had. My trasnmission did not seem any worse off from the change. On the stall speed or what ever I can at will flash the convertor to high rpm and when the transmission shifts the rpms dont not drop. I dont do that as what would be the point, prove that I can trash a stock automatic. My goal is to make it last and when I sell it I did not have to spend money on a truck that I dont intend on keeping. Good luck Jim

I usually get 19.5 or so , however when I went I went to NC to visit my son I got 22 or so running 70 or higher. The 215 injectors really work good passing at 70 to up against the governor. I had to restrain my self at times. The extra torque is fun.
I never go that good on the highway untill I installed the 215 injectors. Use the thinnest washers in the kit. I think that the 215 may be able to give better economy because it injects fuel in the cumbustion chamber quicker than the 160 at a given piston angle. This may be pure BS. The truck starts good, even today at 17 deg. I dont give the truck any fuel to keep the engine from starting for few times to give the oil pressure a chance to reach the turbo when it is that cold. That is just the way I do it. good luck Jim

You stated "Use the thinnest washer" Why do recommend this what will be the difference I think I used the stock 95's washers and was wondering if I would benifit if I were to change them.

I got the injectors from Piers and they were rebuilt. They were different sets of washers in the kit. The first time I installed the injectors I used the thick washers, I did not like the way it started. I got to checking around an I pmed a guy and he told me that He too had been told to install the injectors with the thin washers. Reason I the injector is positioned better in the combustion chamber. I changed out the washers and the truck starts better. That may sound like BS but that is what I have found out. good luck jimk

With thinner washers you should have better HP, although the SOP meter may not be able to determine it because it is not a big difference. Thinner washers will smoke less than thicker ones, all other things considered.
