1995 hard start

My father has a 1995 all stock cummins and it has a problem . He has told me that the last couple weeks, when he goes to start the truck for the first time that day it doesn't want to fire right away, this problem has progressively gotten worse over the couple weeks to where it wants to crank over several times before it fires. He did say that when it gets started it wants to spit and sputter but once he gets it down the road a little ways it runs fine. He also did say that even after the truck sits while he is at work, its like the truck is perfectly fine. Then the next day comes and he has the hard start and sputtering issue till it gets warmed up....I told him the is the one place where he can get his problem solved...Dont let me down guys...

fuel siphoning back to the tank or air is getting pumped forward ? Once the truck is running ok, try spraying some ... WD40 ??.....around the intake areas, guys what can he use there ? We use to use ether but that's not to good on engines in great amounts.

Yep, check the fuel line behind the injection pump. Beings it's a '95 and stock, I'd just change out that fuel line anyway.

My 95 did the same thing. Ended up being the fuel line behind the pump. The sucker is a challenge to change! Man up dude.

I wish I had found this thread before I asked the exact same question......12V Hard Start? My recently acquired 95 is starting to do the exact same thing.

I will check the return hose on mine. I hope that is the problem and that it cures the hard start.

I will be watching for ohiostate24 reply.

John

The best move is to replace the whole fuel line system. If one hose is starting to leak others may, they are all the same age. Did mine a couple of years ago and bypassed the whole old line runs with new diesel rated hose.

Carl is right, the best move is to abandon the entire fuel supply and return system and replace it with quality diesel rated hose all the way from the engine to the tank.
Do it once and be done with it.
Just make sure it's diesel rated hose. Gasoline hose will melt with diesel.
