1994 cummins dies after engine warms

My dad has a 1994 cummins. It starts and runs normal until getting warm and then it dies instantly. Starts again after some cooling time. Could this be the injector pump or any other suggestions? Thanks

Have you tried to adjust the idle? Will it stay running if you keep foot on pedal? Have you ever had the recall done to it? There was one that involved acceletator cable and the idle spring.

thanks, I will check into the recall. When it dies it goes like the fuel has shut off.

Have you checked the Fuel shut off solonoid?

Hold the shutdown solenoid up with some wire and see what it does.
This way you can eliminate any electrical problems.

If you look at the Diagram infidel posted. You can easly remove the fuel shut off valve. Its just 2 bolts and wire harness. Then its just a ball socket holding a lever. So just tie up the lever and see if truck shuts off when warm. Whan you have the Fuel solonoid you can easily check it for play. If that rod is real loose thats probably the issue. Pricey lil part though, 200 bucks or so

No need to wire up the lever, it stays up on its own. Plus, if you need to shut it down in a hurry, you don't have to fight with the wire coming off first.

When my fuel shut off blew. I ran a spring to it to keep it up.

I drove for 3 months with no solenoid, the lever springs up enough for it to run. Then you get some throttle into it, the gov arm will push against the lever stop and push it up further. No need for springs or wire.

does your pedal become stiff when it is shuts down?? I am fighting the same problem w/ my 1994. I had it running today for 1 hour 20 min. & shuts down.
My pedal becomes stiff and at the same time the IJ pump begins to tick, @ times the ticking comes & goes while it begins to shut down. Fuel pressure stays solid while running & solenoid stays up also

Sorry for the bad news, you need a rebuilt injection pump.
The problem you describe is very common with '94 and '95 pumps.

that will be my first call on monday. I checked a few shops and they est. a 6 hour time frame to remove & reinstall the pump, does that sound right???
I have a guy from the pump shop who said he would help with the R&R, but not sure what to do?????
Is it a big job to do after getting it @ TDC??

Thanks
