12V or what?

its coming to the time when im looking for a truck for my self and i wont buy new.
i know i want a diesel and the 12 valve looks pretty good, we already have a 24 valve and we love it! i was thinking the 12 might be a good choice for me because of the price diference.
these are the things i thought that would differ in maintenance cost (and i know it wont be much but it might be something)

less oil during an oil change
better gas milage
400,000 mile life span

if these are wrong let me know or you would like to add to this small list please do so.
i have grown up around trucks and have driven them and would NEVER want to go to a car just for the sake of money (even though thats a concern)
so i am looking for a good diesel that is a little better on the budget (if there is a diference )
i am buying used so if there is a diesel that you have owned and loved ,dodge or not let me know what you would recomend.

i tend to lean to dodge as a first choice and GMC as a second (and only want a diesel with manuel)
i like the 6.5 turbos but have never owned one has anyone had a bad experience? i know its not a small engine at ALL but if i could save on the up front cost of the truck i would be willing to do it.
here is something i would like to have

thanks,
Ian

What else could "12valve" do then suggest a CUMMINS 12 Valve...year 96-98. then you have the 215 HP pump... the best ever put into a dodge.

4. Ill add reliability of the inj. pump to your 12 valve pro list.
5. Easier to bomb

...We have currently 6 CTDs all 12 valves, and i am NOT complaining.

I know I have said this over and over, but I love saying it. here goes the digit thing.
If you are serious about a 12 valve, finding one is the fun part, once you think you found one, double check the VIN. If the 8th digit is a C or D
JACKPOT. You have won the CTD Lottery and I will be the 1st to toast your purchase Best of luck on your own personal quest for this elusive beast, especially the '98 12 valve CTD.

Look around, there are also pitfalls to some 12 valves, like anything in life they are all not created = and you don't want to get stuck with a , unfortunately you can't put to much stock in what I am gleebly expressing for I have owned one only a few short very fun driving weeks.

Bonne chance
