12V Smoking off idle
Hi,
I have a 12V Cummins in a 1995 Motorhome. On the way home from Florida I noticed it would sometimes smoke heavily just off idle when you start to accelerate. Not everytime though. If you take off easy sometimes nothing. Also if it sits and idles 15 mins. or so it really smnokes when you start off. Engine runs really smooth. Any ideas?? Need help.

The smoke when you idle for a long time is from excess fuel accumulating in the cylinders because the Cummins doesn't generate enough heat to burn it just idling.
Solution is to limit idling.
If the airfilter is clean and you have no boost leaks you could try turning the top of the starwheel away from the engine a few clicks at a time till it's acceptable.
