12V Hard Starting?

I have a question for the 12V guys.
I purchased a 1995 3500 4WD dump with the 12V CTD and a 5Spd. The truck was a municipal truck with 118.000 on the odometer.
When the truck is cold and being started for the first time, it takes quite a bit to get her to fire. It is like starting an old gas truck that has sat for awhile as the CTD turns over and over but doesn't fire. I give the throttle a little blip after a try or two, almost like a gasser and it will finally catch.
I own a 2005 CTD with a 6spd and it doesn't start like this 95.
Since the twp put the truck out for bid I am assuming that it might need some work or some parts updated....any thoughts for the hard start?

Once the truck is running and you shut it off, it restarts like my 2005.

I appreciate any help as I want to get the truck sorted out because it will be taking care of my driveway this winter.

Could be as simple as a low idle or needing new battery(s)
The 12 valves can sound like they're turning over fast enough to catch but take just a pinch more juice to fire.

Agreed. Got a couple things for you to look into. Overflow valve. Got mine from from fleabay for 30 bucks plus shipping.

How does it idle once It does start? Possible miss? Sounds like your getting air in the lines. It doesnt take but a pin hole and smaller to give ya trouble. My old Ford 7.3IDI had to be cranked forever before it would start cause of air in the lines.

i belive if you look on the drivers side sun visor its says to give the truck 1/4 throttle when its cold and you first start it. mine used to take about 3-4 sec to start if i gave it no throttle but if i blipted it, it would fire right off. i recently replaced the overflow valve and the lift pump and now the truck starts almost immediately
