12V in an ext. cab short bed?
12V in an ext. cab short bed?
Did Dodge ever make a 12V in an extended cab shortbed truck? I can not find one anywhere. I am wanting the body style worse than the engine, so I am willing to get the 24v if I have to. But I would like the other option of the 12v if possible.
Just curious as to why you only want a SB, Most everyone I know wouldn't even consider one, With a tool box in there you barely have enough room for groceries. 24v is a great truck, most all of my friends have a 24v or a 3rd gen, From what I know about their trucks is that they are a lot easier to find, have HUGE fuel pump issues, and are a lot more expensive to modify initially

I dont do alot of hauling, i dont haul a 5th wheel. I just don't like the look of such a long truck. I own other trucks and they are all shortbeds. It is hard for my wife to park such a long vehicle. I just really prefer the look of the short bed. i have heard about the 24v pump issues. They say that they are good to about 150 to 180k. I can handle replacing a 1200 pump that often. i am not really looking at modding it to much for power, mostly for economy. My dad has a 12v and gets about 24 out of it. I love the tq of the cummins and want one instead of a gas. maybe just a bhaf, exhaust, (tuner on a 24v), and maybe some injectors.
Just from experience, when someone says that, especially with injectors, your gonna keep on going, its too addicting
.
But from what I know about my friends 24v's, they all run a FASS fuel system which keeps their fuel pressure high enough to not worry about pump issues.
And I wouldn't put a mileage limit on the truck that says how long they are good for...if well taken care of these engines can go well over 300k from what I have seen
And with fuel economy I don't think there will be any engine on any truck that can pump out the economy a 12v can(I'm probably wrong about that but I am very biased), I average 20 up here at an altitude while my boss's 24v barely gets 17 at sea level with an intake, edge juice w/ attitude and exhaust

Well is it difficult to swap a 12v in later or put a p pump in a 24v later on? what would control the timing in a 24v if I swapped the pump? Man it is a hair puller. Maybe someone will be selling a 98 short bed, ext. cab 12v when I get ready to get it, LOL...
Yea, its a tough choice, I don't know much about swapping motors at all. I know a p pump conversion is quite common but with all other issues on a 24v about controlling timing you would have to ask that question in a 24v forum. And not to upset you, it is VERY hard to find a 98 12v LB that is in half way decent shape with lower miles, I can't imagine it would be any bit easier to find a SB 12v.
Also, with these trucks you are buying the best diesel motor ever built, BUT bolted to the worst tranny that I have ever encountered...Save money to rebuild the tranny before you do anything...Thats where I messed up bad

Well, you can look for a 98 12v, or if you don't want to wait then a 24v is your only option for the short bed. You can find a 98, just have to go long distances to pick it up, maybe even across country. Just don't get a 24v, seems like you don't want one. Swapping engines and/or injection pumps is going to cost you major $$$.
