12 Valve Grid Heater Question
12 Valve Grid Heater Question
My '96 is having issues starting when its ambient temps are only -5C and colder. Doesn't seem to matter if I cycle the grid heater more than once. I know this isn't cold enough to have issues and I'm thinking the grid heater isn't working. Is this a common problem with this truck? And what would be the best way to check to see if its warming up? Will area around intake tube get warm enough to the touch if I cycle it at all?
Easiest way is to watch your volt gauge after it fires. Is it dropping and going back up? If so, your GHs are working.
You can also check at the GH terminals for power, the solenoids do wear out over time.

Thanks for the idea, I should have known better to check the voltage. It's a no brainer, sometimes a guy overlooks the simplest thing thinking the problem is more complex than it should be on these diesels haha
