Picked up my block heater cord

The parts guy didn't know where it went, luckily he's the parts guy and not the mechanic

From info gleammed off this board the heater is behind the filter ??

passenger side, right behind the filer, remove the little black cap and you've got it.

 

I concur, I put mine in last week and then it runs along the frame. The plastic grommets on the cord push directly into the frame. Don't be surprised that it won't blow warm air or that the temp gauge isn't above 140 when you start it. The block heater only warms the water right around the block so it starts easier. It doesn't work like an aftermarket block heat that you would put into the lower radiator hose ;D

The block heater is installed from Cummins,,,but no Cord!!!

 

That's stupid. Why install the heater with out the cord? It's not they are all that expensive to put in. Just another dumb plot to make more money.

got in yesterday will try in tonight goes between the filter and the turbo seems like ahot place to me

Picked up some fender liners but they gave me 2 lefts got the right right one tonight and installed things are looking up

I think the $35 cord ia an absolute ripoff

 

You can get a tank heater for less than $35 if you shop around.

It will outperform a frost plug heater hands down.

Spend a bit extra and get a big one like 2000 watt.... ;D

The tank type circulates warmth better when installed right.

Just follow the directions. I have put them on 2cyl diesel gens (1000 watt tank heater), IR 185 comps, and much bigger engines...


If you have more money just type ESPAR into search...

I'm thinking it may be a good thing that I don't know what a tank heater is. I do like to keep the big girl plugged in on those cold nights.

 

Yeah, I had the same question...and I won't hold it against you that you're retired Navy and living in MD. I am originally from Baltimore and now living in Texas, working for the Army..go figure that one!

Tank heater.

Mount it and plumb per the directions and thermodynamics will actually draw cold coolant into the little tank and the heated coolant will flow up the top tube back to the engine.

They make bigger ones... twice the heat.. 2000 Watt.

MNISB, thanks. That tank heater looks like an external high volume "block heater". Neat little install on that TDI, done by a guy at Central Mich - I used to go there about 20 years ago. Did Kim Hotstart go to CMU too? I think she did.

Hey Chief, congrats on the retirement. Whats the prognosis now that you've seen the other side? Same stuff, different uniform color? You and Shortround could swap war stories.

 

My wife retires with 21 years in A.F. in June as an O5. I got out couldn't stand the politics or the blue polyester

 

The pickle polyester isn't any better.

 

Here is a pic of the block heater diagram if you're planning on installing your cord. I am going to order mine from the dealer on Monday. Ridiculous. I can't believe it doesn't come with the cord!

This diagram shows the insertion of the heater. When looking on the block, mine has a black cover on it right where the diagram says. You'll have to take the air intake off to get the cord on I'm sure.
