Backup Lights Saga

So about 8 years ago I got mighty tired of the stock back-up lights and went to the local cheap auto parts place and bought some (Taiwan) lights that I could hang down from the bumper. I put in a toggle switch so I could control them independently of the gearshift, and an indicator light so I could tell when they were on.

After a few years I knocked off one of the lights and bought another, identical set. Wasn't too long before I knocked another one off. The final straw for these things came during a rainstorm when I was loaded heavy and rolled over a curb. When I went back to check the trailer, I saw one was hanging down by it's electrical wires. I just grabbed it and ripped it off and tossed it into the garbage.

Screw it, I thought and went a different route. A month of so ago I got out my hole saw and Milwaukee Sawzall and started in on the back bumper:

They are the high-intensity L.E.D. lights. After I cut the slots, I took some CR Laurence windshield and repair sealant, which will not harden, and coated the cuts and sealed the gaskets to the cuts.

They work ok. Actually the other ones that hung down illuminated more, but I couldn't keep 'em on the truck!

Nice job!...I have a set of the hang down ones on my 96 and they need replacing as well. I will go the same route as before only because I have another set left in the garage but much prefer your set up

Thanks Lary. These actually don't illuminate as far back as my old hang-down ones did, but they illuminate enough that I can avoid running into things.
