Water pump

going to put in a Mishimoto high performance aluminum radiator. While I'm at it, I probably should replace the water pump. I have no idea how long this one's been in service. I've put about 40,000 on it.

Any brand better? Any one to avoid?

I've had good luck with gates. They seem to go every 300k (180k miles) so when a truck is at about 280k/580k/850k I make sure it has a replacement behind the seat

Which reminds me, I seen one truck is at 560k, better order one!

I bought a $50 Duralast from AutoZone back in 2009. Still running it to this day. Not a single issue. Inexpensive and ease of replacement is why I didn't mind the Duralast.

I saw that. By the way, serpentine belt's chirping when it's damp. What's the best buy without sacrificing quality for that item?

I like the Goodyear gator back personally. How is your tensioner? Sounds weak..

Last month I replaced my belt with a Gates Green Line from O'Reilly. It was about $50 but seems very high quality and it completely eliminated a squeak from my previous no-name belt. And it's a nice bright green; I love that splash of color under the hood .

One of the mechanics here at Cummins Power South who owns two 2nd Gen trucks told me to expect to replace my water pump about every 100k miles.

Can you provide more details on this high performance radiator? I recently replaced every radiator hose and heater hose in the system, including all elbows and the four steel tubes. My radiator needs cleaning but I'd like to compare the price of cleaning my OEM unit vs. a high-end replacement.

Don't intend to hijack this thread; sorry.

TIA.

Because of the part number, I called them and verified that the application was truly 91.5 - 93 intercooled. They said yes.

I don't know the difference in the radiators between IC and non-IC. If a 93 radiator wouldn't work, this one probably won't either.

Why don't you call Mishimoto and ask them?

The one radiator that I saw Mishimoto had, was listed to fit '89-'93 trucks.
It will NOT work on a '89-'91 as it was an intercooled radiator design for the '91.5-'93 truck.
Hopefully they have changed their advertising…
I would be angry if I bought one that was listed to FIT my truck, and the core support, fan shroud, upper radiator tube / cast neck on the block, clutch fan, and maybe even the grille needed to be changed to use the radiator.

It says on their page, 91 - 93. Obviously it's 91.5 - 93. Coupla folks that I've read about using them say they drop in and work great.

I saw a video they had a few months ago, when it was listed to fit all '89-'93 12Vs.
I figured someone would straighten them out pretty quickly.

j_martin:
It does look like a nice unit.
I hope it helps keep you cool pulling your camper and boat around.

When I replaced my head gasket I replaced my pump with a NAPA unit I'm pretty sure. And a Green Gator back belt. I threw the old belt in the truck for a spare. Been thinking of getting a non AC belt for a just in case I need to bypass the AC on the road.
