strong burned oil smell through vents
First time this morning. First time I've used a throttle stick to warm up the engine for a few minutes (around 1200rpm). This is also the second morning it's been around freezing. (Truck wasn't plugged in)
When I got in the truck, I smelled the oil smell. I popped the hood, didn't see any more leaks than normal (see below, slight valve cover leaks). When driving it's fine, but come to a stop, and there's the smell through the vents.
Mind you, I do not have the seal between the cowl and the hood, but have never had it, and never smelled the smell before.
My valve cover gaskets do leak some, but it didn't look any worse than it always has on the engine, and even immediately after shutdown, not even a hint of any smoke anywhere from the engine.
Is it just the cold weather? What does that gasket cost / have you made your own for less cash? We're going on a trip in a week and I don't want her smelling that.

I'll bet it's the lack of the hood seal. You probably never noticed it before because you never left it high idling with the windows rolled up and probably the heater fan turned on before.
On my rig when the seal partially fell off the only time the oil smell came in the cab was when stopped.

Yeah, but I get the smell whenever I stop at a light, too, and the only recirc is on face vents, IIRC... Stupid over-engineered '98 panels!
I'll look around for some sealer.. Thanks guys.

After installing an ATS torque plate on my truck I noticed a similar smell also. I cannot find any oil leak and it is not burning any oil. Does any one think it may be my transmission starting to take a dive since the added power increase?
