Class V Hitch that replaces stock hitch?
Does anyone know of a Class V Hitch that replaces the stock hitch. I don't like how low the hitches are that mount below the stock one.
Any Ideas?
Should I just make one?

I e-mailed him.
The factory hitch seems to be OK for lighter trailers. He got like a 32' RV trailer, and the dealer removed the factory hitch (even gave him $$$ for it) and put on a class 5.

I purchased a Curt Magnum, Class 5 trailer hitch #15012:
1,200/12,000 Weight Carrying (WC)
1,400/14,000 Weight Distribution (WD)
Great hitch and got it for less than $250.00 I also purchased a 14K ball to work on my HD receiver. Also, take a look at the below hitches even though I don't know the year of your truck:
Valley #V82522 1,200/12,000 (WC) & 1,500/15,000 (WD)
Draw Tite Titan #45010 1,200/12,000 (WC) & 1,400/14,000 (WD)
Reese Titan 1,200/12,000 (WC) & 1,400/14,000 (WD)
Tork Lift Super Hitch 15,000 (WC) & 17,000 (WD) *** These are Expensive but VERY Strong ***
http://www.torklift.com
Also check etrailer.com for hitch info.
Works great. Hope this helps.

If there are any Putnams left those are pretty nice. You cut off the old reciever and use the factory tube along with there new hitch.
Its very strong. I pulled a 20000 lb bumper pull a while back. Had a 2200lb tongue weight.
It was a portable restroom trailer. I moved it from Denver to Louisville.
It was full of you know what, so it was pretty heavy.
It made my truck ride horrible, even with air bags, lol

Thanks for the info!
I was looking for the rating on the stock hitch, but there is not sticker or stamp giving its rating...
Do I have to look in the manual, or where? I will have to look in the book, I would have guessed that it would say on the hitch what it is rated for.
Thanks All.

I settled on the Reese/drawtite/hidden hitch #45299. It is the only receiver that does away with the old pile o junk OEM hitch and fits directly in place of the OEM receiver mounting points - and ties into the frame at additional points as well. It looks like no fun at all to install but I need something that is going to deal with 2K of tongue weight on rough roads without going South on me....none of the other options appear as stout, IMO.

Top's Younger Twin
I bought a super hitch, same specs as the Reese...install was very easy.
Also helps to level the trailers...I use a 2" drop hitch on it and everything sits very close to level whereas I had to use a 4" drop on the stock recvr.

My Curt Magnum, Class 5 trailer hitch #15012 was a direct bolt on using the original hitch frame holes, the same as the stock hitch plus it uses one (1) addt'l hole per side:
1,200/12,000 Weight Carrying (WC)
1,400/14,000 Weight Distribution (WD)
It installed easily with the use of a floor jack and wood block. I did it by myself. Now I have excellent strength to pull my trailer.

The Reese hitch looks great.. My OE hitch is about 2 1/8 so hitches wobble in it, I have been wanting to upgrade it.
So whats the difference in the 45299 and 45295.. they look the same?
My owners manual puts the OEM hitch at 1,200/12,000. It also says equalizer hitches are required when tongue weight hits 350lbs (like that one ever gets adhered to)

The stock receiver is rated for 5000/500 weight carrying and 10,000/1000 weight distributing. Which is woefully inadequate for our trucks. I still can't believe that pile of scrap is OEM on a 3500 DRW. My OE receiver is all bent to heck and I need to replace it. I am looking for suitable class 5 replacements as we speak.
