Up and at 'em! A fresh new week in which to mess things all up awaits you!
It is Sunday, August 17th.
1790 - The capital city of the U.S. moved to Philadelphia from New York City.
1807 - Robert Fulton's "North River Steam Boat" (known as the "Clermont") began heading up New York's Hudson River on its successful round-trip to Albany.
1859 - A hot air balloon was used to carry mail for the first time. John Wise left Lafayette, IN, for New York City with 100 letters. He had to land after only 27 miles.
1863 - Federal batteries and ships bombarded Fort Sumter in Charleston, SC, harbor during the Civil War.
1896 - The Klondike gold rush was set off by George Carmack discovering gold on Rabbit Creek in Alaska.
1903 - Joseph Pulitzer donated a million dollars to Columbia University. This started the Pulitzer Prizes in his name.
1943 - The Allied conquest of Sicily was completed as U.S. and British forces entered Messina.
1961 - The Communist East German government completed the construction of the Berlin Wall.
1987 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 2,700 for the first time.
1996 - A military cargo plane crashed in Wyoming killing eight crewmembers and a Secret Service employee. The plane was carrying gear for U.S. President Clinton.
1996 - Ross Perot was announced to be the Reform Party's presidential candidate. It was the party's first-ever candidate.
1998 - U.S. President Clinton admitted to having an improper relationship with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern.
1998 - NationsBank and BankAmerica merge to create the largest U.S. bank.
Today's thought:
I will be the last person to die in my lifetime.

Looked around for some info on MAC tools, it appears that it's a crapshoot as to just where which tool is now made. But there is the "Armstrong" brand of tools, made in USA, that's almost affordable, any new tools may be that brand. Looking at some old MAC stuff on evilpay, though, finish out my set of swivel box ends and get some metric stuff. 1 or 2 at a time if need be. May as well have some matching stuff, too, right? First real good set of wrenches I've ever had.
OK, that's a little to morbid for me this early in the morning.
Morning all.

More tools are always good! Just got back from the Walmart. I sure must have missed the news about a huge upcoming winter storm or something...Can't believe i subjected myself to that mess. Bread Isle mostly empty, heathens and other irritants everywhere. Maybe there is a reason the wife doesn't take me out in public very often!

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Boy, what a dead place! Hellllllooooooo. Nothing. Nada. Just an echo and the smell of burned coffee.
Leaving Ithaca tomorrow morning for more exciting pastures and adventures. Will let y'all know what transpires.

Happy Sunday all y'all, good to hear from Chaikwa, T-Rad, Sherod and Mexstan. It has been an awesome Sunday on the edge of the Canadian prairies. We had some friends come and bring their 3 kids (ages 6 and 4) for a visit on 'the farm'. We all know it is an acreage or a hobby farm, but to those kids it is always 'the farm'. The forecast for today wasn't great but Mother Nature took pity on us and it was warm, the wind finally let up and the sun came out. Kids played in the pool, got rides on the quad, picked and ate their body weight in fresh peas and then got to climb on hay bales and all sorts of other tom-foolery. The kids had a blast, but let me tell you, kids are a younger man's game. They exhausted me. It was worth it though as it seems they never forget. The kids were around for a day about the same time last year and their parent's say they still go on about it all the time. Helping kids learn about life in the country and giving them fun and good memories is what life is all about.
DW is making fresh mango salsa and went and picked the first tomatoes of the season from the greenhouse. It is time to relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the successes of the day.
Play safe all y'all.

Sunday, day of rest. Or something. Repaired 96 intrepid, front end damage and no start. Replaced lower ctrl arm, stabilizer bushings, and front brakes. No start was a tough one. No gas, no start. A plus b equals 0. Got the 86 Honda atv mobile under its own power, just needs a battery to be 100% now. Repaired a vacuum cleaner. It was having problems creating the low pressure area needed for dirt and dust to flow into. Got that rolling along nicely. Cleaned frame grounds on the 02 silverado 1/2 ton, to see if we can get the ebcm working properly.
So, basically a pretty slow day thus far, sure to pick up a bit later. Need to get on with making something for food here soon, then see what other projects I can delete from the list.
Weather has been unsettled, kind of like mother nature suffers from ibs or something, one minute it's rumbling, then warm and windy, then squirting.... you get the picture.
Have fun folks

Finished ripping terrace channels today. After cleaning battery terminals so tractor would start. Was only getting 10 volts to starter. 13 at batteries. After turning the rubber bushings in the hydraulic linkages so I could lift the ripper.
T-rad- I was going to get Craftsman, but they are mostly made in China now. And the only pawn shop remotely close (North Platte, 70 miles) is only open weekdays.
Looked at the price of a toolbox lately? YIKES!! For all they really are, they sure are expensive.
TG- all kinds of fun stuff on a farm as a kid.
Big storm formed up east of us. Formed right around us and moved east, actually. Got a few sprinkles.
Got a set of allen wrenches off evilpay, old MAC, and got the top bid on the 13/16 to match the ones I have. What I need really, is 13/16 and up, most sets stop at 3/4.
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. However.
I am wearing her underwear."
Did I miss something?
There's a guy on evilpay selling photocopies of Harbor Freight magazine ad coupons. Or at least trying to.

Wow, only 9 posts even with madhat and pind helping.
I don't know and I'm not sure I want to know (that's how rumors get started around here).
I bought a set of Crescent® tools a couple of years ago at Costco to keep in the travel trailer.
They are ok but it turns out they are made in Taiwan.
When the heck did that start!?
What a weird day. Had to go and change two flat tires and neither of them were on my vehicles.
More people need to get AAA.

Morning everyone.
Man, whatta mess in Ferguson, Missouri. Now they've called in the National Guard. Talk about a few people giving a whole group a bad name.
Today is Mnday, August 18th.
1587 - Virginia Dare became the first child to be born on American soil of English parents. The colony that is now Roanoke Island, NC, mysteriously vanished.
1846 - Gen. Stephen W. Kearney and his U.S. forces captured Santa Fe, NM.
1914 - The "Proclamation of Neutrality" was issued by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. It was aimed at keeping the U.S. out of World War I. Didn't work.
1920 - Tennessee ratified the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Amendment guaranteed the right of all American women to vote.
1937 - The first FM radio construction permit was issued in Boston, MA. The station went on the air two years later.
1940 - Canada and the U.S. established a joint defense plan against the possible enemy attacks during World War II.
1963 - James Meredith graduated from the University of Mississippi. He was the first black man to accomplish this feat.
1966 - The first pictures of earth taken from moon orbit were sent back to the U.S.
1982 - The volume on the New York Stock Exchange topped the 100-million level for the first time at 132.69 million shares traded.
1990 - The first shots were fired by the U.S. in the Persian Gulf Crisis when a U.S. frigate fired rounds across the bow of an Iraqi oil tanker.
1997 - Beth Ann Hogan became the first coed in the Virginia Military Institute's 158-year history.
2004 - Donald Trump unveiled his board game (TRUMP the Game) where players bid on real estate, buy big ticket items and make billion-dollar business deals.
Today's thought:
The person who would proof read Hitler's speeches was a grammar ****.
Thanks for the c0ffee boss!

My half brother use to by me tools when he worked in the hardware store. Thorsen, Kreuter, and Cresent mostly. 50 years later I still wrench on airplanes with most of them. Today, to look in my tool box you will see nothing but mixed brands. You will also see a lot of "custom" (altered) one purpose tools.

Most if my wrenches/sockets are K&D, used to be Oreillys store brand,
Came off the same assy line as Snap-On but much less $$
Had'em going on 20 yrs now and very happy with them.
Not using them daily or to earn a living, never could justify spending the money for Mac or Snap...
Now I buy most of my tools at whatever store us most convienent at the moment and use it till it breaks.....
