Then I dropped my 2004.5 CTD truck off at a local Dodge dealer. I handed the Service rep a copy of this thread and crossed my fingers. late this afternoon they called with news that my Evaporator is leaking.

They stated that they filled the A/C system with Freon and Dye. Then found the leak in the Evaporator. This of course is very different than the horror story than the Local A/C shop quoted a few days ago.

The good news? Dodge offered a Goodwill Warranty and offered to pay for half of the entire Evaporator replacment bill, of $1,153.00 or $576.82 plus tax. With zero additional input from me.

My question's to this form is:
1. Should I be concerned about them changing the orifice tube to the .067 Fot size.

2. Did DC offer to repair any other 2004.5 CTD (or older Dodge trucks) with troubled A/C issues that are over the 36,000 mile mark? If so did they pick up the entire repair?

3. How bad of a job is it to replace the Evaporator? Any idea of the number of required hours?

I tend to agree with some of the other members about these Dodge A/C issues. Back in 1977 I went to work for GM at Harrision Radiator ( now bankrupt Delfi ) in my home town of Lockport, NY. Even way back then, GM was very interested in finding any /all leaks in the entire A/C system. I was surprised, when I saw a fellow worker using a small hand held device that sensed even the smallest parts per million Freon leak. All this almost thirty years ago... I wonder what level of quailty control goes into the A/C systems on our trucks?

As you can see, this form is a wealth of information. Thank You, again for the great advice. I look forward to reading this thread to the end. Keep up the good work BeemO.

That is really a perty good deal. The exact same problem my truck had. Thanks to Hounddog he dropped me an email and told me to check my truck. So I did. Low in behold I had the dreaded A/C issue. My truck was under warranty luckily(33,000 miles). Even if it cost you the price of the line I would have it replaced and add 2.00 lbs of R134a to it at the same time. You can always ask if they will replace it for FREE. The answer is always no if you don't ask. FYI, the dash has to come out to replace the evap. While they are in their have them check the blend and recirc. door. You should only have to pay for the door if one of them is broken. Maybe still just half if they are going to do the pay for half deal.

Dealer called and said they fixed another truck today with the same A/C issue. It had a 25 degree difference from left to right. They installed a new orifice line and a condensor. Charged to 2.00 lbs of R134a. Checked after and the split was 4 degrees. Not as good as my truck but still good. So it looks like if you have this issue and have no leaks you will need one new orifice line as provided by Beemo and one new condensor(05-06 model truck part number) Beemo will have to give the part number because I don't have it.

Hope this helps everyone.
Beemo can you give us the new condensor part number?

Yes, they changed them in 05. You will have to move the bottom brackets up a little but works just fine.

Part number for the liquid line, orifice line is on one of Beemo's post. The part number for the condensor I don't have. The dealer told me it was an 05-06 condensor part number.

I would say you already have the better compressor. The orifice tube came out because of issues with the MY 06' trucks. That would be trucks that were built January 06'. Don't know when they started using the new orifice. Beemo hasn't been on here is a while. He could answer all of these questions.

Ok guys. Just installed part# 55056808AA liquid line (with blue orifice tube) and a 30oz R134a charge onto my truck. I will keep you updated as to how it works in correcting my large differential in left side to right side vent temps.

It had part# 55055960AB (purple orifice tube) on it from the factory. My vent temps were 8-9 degrees higher on the passenger side vents after crusing 4+ miles on the freeway holding steady @ 65mph on a 95+ degree day.

Thanks to Spooler & Hounddog for all the info.

Sled4 Fun-
How much was that new line? I have had this AC issue since I bought the truck and have been following this post, but have been deployed, so I had a lot of catching up to do. I would like to get this stuff replaced. Thanks.

The liquid line was not very much $10-$15 was my shop price. My Tech said he had to remove the passenger inner fenderwell for installation. I will be testing with a thermometer on my way home after work today. With just my hands it does feel much closer in temps. More tomarrow.
