Stolen VW Van recovered...after 35 years!!

Sometimes you see a news article that makes you wonder - and smile! This van is mint, and worth a lot more than it was 35 years ago...

Would be nice if the insurance company would give the original owner the chance to buy back the van. If possible.

Saw that on the news earlier today. Lots of those running around my area. Hmmm, if they are worth that much, maybe I should buy a few, restore them and sell them to you American's?

Stan....

buy one, paint a few peace signs on it, some flowers, and spread a little of the local cash crop around in it and it will double or triple the value to some of the retiring hippies in the US....

A friend that I caught up with at my 20 yr. told me his father had just recently recovered a 76 F-350 that was stolen when we were in high school in 1982. It was a camper special with the 460 and that orange/yellow color. I wanted that truck so badly I thought of stealing it myself! A drug raid on a big farm near Bishop CA produced the truck. It had never been retabbed and was used locally for years with nobody the wiser. He said it had a ton of miles on it and was pretty beat when his dad was told about it! Crazy.

50K for a rolling road block??

Too many young people don't know what it's like to get stuck behind one in traffic

I'd like to have one. Main thing is it would have to be a year when they imported them into the US otherwise you'd have a hard time getting a title/registration. But I think there is someone I know that can help with those sorts of things here in Texas who've helped me out on a couple odd ball deals.

Did they do those vans like they did the Bugs in Mexico and keep producing them?

If I was the original owner I think I'd be offering Allstate their settlement money back so I could get my van.
