No, it shouldn't. You may notice a minor difference, but unlikley. You will stay cooler. I think an artical I read once said, unless you are going 700hp or more, you don't need 5". 4" will work just fine, and you won't have to hear that Dreaded Drone.

My last truck had a 5 inch turbo back exhaust and i wasnt impressed. I noticed a loss in low end power. Unless you just have to have 5 inch or have plans for 800hp i would stick with 4inch.

The less the back-pressure....the sooner you spool-up. Back-pressure in a Diesel is a NO-NO!!!. All it can do is help to go as big as you can, I am running a MBRP 5"TB and absoutly love it, spool-up is almost instand and I noticed approx a 300* drop in temps @WOT.

Take this as you will, I am just adding my experiences, although every truck is different.....

So, any other opinions on if there is a downside to going with the 5" other then drone? Is there a low end power loss or not?

I was leaning towards 5" just because it sounds a lot deeper. I think the 4" sounds raspy and ricer like(especially straight pipe)

I have no more drone with my 5" than I did with my 4" SP.

I just installed a 5" MBRP TB and I like it so far. I had the 4" straightpiped and it sounded too much like a ricer. I don't have a drone either. At 65 you barely hear the exhaust. At 70 you start to notice it in the cab but it is not the headache causing DRONE. Believe me, I had a 2003 with the Banks monster kit and two mufflers and still hated to drive it. I think the 5" sounds better at an idle than the 4" also. Just my .02.

I'm sure that many users that have turbo back exhaust have the stock down pipe...

However, I have a turbo back system, and it comes with a down pipe, have you called any of the exhaust co's that sell for out truck?
