gauge pod

I was on a mission to find the best gauge pod for my new 03

I havent heard any positive comments on the A-pillar mount.
I looked at the autometer mount on the steering column and thought it appeared to block the odometer and idiot lights in the speedo and tach. So I ordered a "wedgee" from Rod. Well the wedgee hadnt arrived yet and I got a little impatient and decided to try something with a little aluminum, cause I like polished stuff. Well I came up with this little pod that I made to fit the contour of the dash. At first I thought it looked pretty stupid, but after driving around with it mounted, I decided I like the gauges here. The polished finish had to go though (glares in the windshield too much). So I have since ground off the weld, bead blasted it and painted it to match the dash.

Re:gauge pod

from what ive seen theres 4 options
1. wedgee
2. autometer column mount
3. x-monitor
4. A-pillar mount

wedgee may be the best option vs. this thing but worth a look anyway

column mount leaves the 3rd gauge hanging

I personally dont like digital screens (just my opinion)

and well the A-pillar was great in the 2nd gens but...

any other ideas??????

Re:gauge pod

Push rod posted a pic some time ago but I dont know where to find the post

he had it sitting in the left corner of the dash and it appeared to fit well there

I think there is a picture on the wildcat web site

I just wanted something directly in the line of sight when going down the road (I tend to drive "by the gauge&quot

on long trips I noticed a little eye strain from trying to look at the three gauges on the pillar all the time, this eliminates that

Re:gauge pod

Looks pretty darn good ;D. I'd be happy with that on my dash! I like the pod right above the wheel, easy to keep an eye on things...-Steve

Re:gauge pod

I have the Autometer column mount and I like it. I am 6'2" If I was shorter I may not like it though. I have a pyro and a boost gauge, if I had a Auto trans I probably would have looked for something else.

Re:gauge pod

I have the column mount too. It doesn't block the other gauges. As for the third gauge. I have a 6 spd so I don't need a tranny temp. I bought a fuel pressure gauge and it's going to be hidden in the ashtray.

Re:gauge pod

I used a gauge pod from a Gen-II and trimmed the base to match the Gen-III dash contour. See some pics at my website.

ya, and im one of those "not so tall people" and I tend to sit with my seat kind of low.
i run egt, boost, and fuel press and want to see them all the time so I want them close to view of road

when I get my new gauges Ill post a pic of the thing painted to match the dash (looks a little better)

That is a nice job!! That is exactly what I had in mind. Do you see any concerns doing a 3 pod? how is the color match?

Re:gauge pod

3-pod should work fine as well, but the base trimming will be more involved because you will follow the dash contour further. Should work out nicely though if you take your time. Be one with the Dremel... ;D

The color match was perfect on mine, unpainted. They offered to paint it for me, but I held one of them up that was painted with the factory paint code, and it looked off... So mine is as it came from the factory and it's spot on. Even has a very similar texture to it.
