Replacing upper / lower ball joints

In the need of advice. Again.

After putting new treads on my truck I took it in for a full alignment. As usual they tell me parts need to be replaced. I have the tools to remove/install the ball joints but have not done it to my truck before. I plan on tearing it apart this weekend. It looks like I need to remove the axel shafts to get to the ball joints??? If so, will the axels just slide out or do I have to drop the diff. cover and remove a retainer. Any and all help is appreaciated.

Regards,

HydraulicGuy

The front axle shafts just slide out.

Careful with your inner axle seals. You have to pull the ring gear carryer to replace the seals from the inside.

If they are leaking at all or afraid they will leak , If you are doing all that work anyway , good time to replace them. The passinger side seal is out past the axle collar 4x4 lock.

Thanks for the info GSP. My front seals are not leaking now but I'll bet they will when I'm done the way my luck is.
