lol...for the past several months I've tried to just blow it off but when your woken up night after night and starts effecting your sleep, wakes your kids up and all you hear for hours on end it gets old. I tried the ear plugs but then from being so exhausted, I slept in and was late for work b/c I didn't hear the alarm clock. I can barely sit outside and have a casual bbcue or conversation w/out the overbearing noise from this dog barking. I really appreciate the ideas....keepem' coming.

I feel your pain. I was raised outside of city limits. Where you have septic systems, can pop fireworks and no ordinances to deal with. Quiet. Nice. Now I'm grown and married, we live in a city neighborhood. Small city, but small city in the giant DFW metroplex. It is NEVER quiet. Someone is always making noise- cars, motorcycles, the jerk that likes to mow & weed eat at 730am. Can't wait until we get to that place in our lives when we can retreat into the peace again. And I like our neighbors, neighborhood, and city

Anyway, barking dogs are very loud in a neighborhood. I can attest to that. Their voices carry for blocks, over high fences and trees. They echo on the walls of houses and the concrete and asphalt streets.

I'm going to give it one more night and follow up w/my council person tomorrow. I'm still ready to drive over there @ 3am and act like a looney w/a flashlight expressing concern.

The lights and wake up are pretty cool. An electric over air remote switch would be easy to sit by the bed for when you wake up.

25 years ago I had a neighbor who came home most nights at 1am. He would fix a drink, some burgers in his patio which was near my bedroom wall. Loud music and bright lights pointed right at my windows.
After asking around, talking with him too, I found there was a history of over 30 calls to the local police! Other neighbors were scared of him.
So, I check with city hall. No fence rules. I built a 8 foot by 40 fence with sound board on his side. Set the posts one night. Next night put the fence up with friends.
He was there with his lawyer! I told them both to get off of my yard if they think they are going to change my mind.
Lawyer said he was going to sue my . I handed him my card.

A few months later they moved.

I moved my country family into a fourplex for a short time. Neighbor through the back wall would come home at 1am, and play his rock music loud for several hours.

I tuned my speakers against his wall and gave him full throttle hellfire and brimstone preacher for about an hour at 6 am, one time.

That was all that was needed.

The last time I had a noisey neighbor, this is what happened. One night I was awakend by my ceiling fan rattling from all the jumping in the upstairs apartment. Mind you, I had a 150 gallon salt water reef aquarium in the bedroom with me with pumps and loud running water sounds. It used to rock me to sleep so to speak. The first time this happened i let it slide. The next time it happened, I had a little fun. I backed my 1969 VW Bug up to their door. It had a 2164cc engine with dual Derlorto's, RX headers, the works. I was about 5 feet away. I then had it on the rev limiter for a good 30 seconds. The next day I saw one of my girl neighbors in passing..... I was friendly and smiled. Her next comment was classic, "man your car sure is loud". I thought I was going to break the window glass. Needles to say I had no more issues...

My aunt lives a few houses over and has that dog that barks everytime something moves.
Actually, its her son-in-laws dog. the dog is an ok dog, but just likes to bark.
I just run a fan at night. a little white noise blocks out alot.
Outside of that. if the dog is really annoying. file a noise complaint. Every night the dog wakes you, call and file one.
when you're on first name basis with the night time dispatcher, then you might get attention.

This cruel thought just came to me. Get a train airhorn. Next time the dog starts it's stuff, blow the darn horn directed at their house. Maybe they will get the picture.

Alum in the burger patties? Or maybe some jalapeno. Give 'em laryngitis.

This is pretty much what I'm doing and I think it's starting to work. The dog barked for about 5min@3am this morning but then all was quiet. Lying there now awake, I was mentally preparing myself to drive over there. I s/h just gotten up then. Ive forgotten what a nights sleep is like....actually starting to feel somewhat normal.

It's not the dog's fault.
The OWNER however is fair game.

I had noisy neighbors (renters) for about two years.
Every other weekend and every holiday weekend it was LOUD outdoor parties with 30 - 40 20-somethings hollering, slamming car, and house doors, loud music until 3 or 4 in the morning.
Went to ask them to hold it down and got nowhere.
Cops showed up,..... music and noise died down for only about 10 minutes.
Called the rental agency handling the property.
They told me and I quote "As long as their check clears it's not our problem".

FINALLY got the OWNER'S home phone number.
Next party, called his sorry behind from by deck @ 2AM and woke HIM up.
Held my phone in the air for about 10 seconds, then told him I was 50 feet from HIS property line and it was THAT loud....and my bedroom window was about 15 feet from "Party Central".
They got a Non-Renewal notice that month.

Go to the source of the problem.

I understand it's "not the dogs fault" but the owner is responsible for the dogs actions. In this case the dog is disturbing the peace and a public nuisance. You were eventually able to get to the source of the problem....exactly where I am today. It's clear the owner is clueless or doesn't care. It's my intention to make them aware of the problem and continue to do so until it's resolved. I appreciate all the comments....still like the "train horn" suggestion the best....just not sure I could feasibly spend a day rigging something up.

Try one of these. Put one on each fence post between you and your neighbor, pointed at the dogs. Actually just one might work.

(PetSafe-Outdoor-Ultrasonic-Bark-Deterrent or Bark Control Birdhouse)

Three settings 15, 30 or 50 feet; hang up to 5’ above ground. Uses one 9V battery. Durable, weatherproof plastic.

Friends that lives on the neighboring acreage beside me put them around their perimeter, his dogs stopped barking.

But the train horn has a 1 mile effective range/setting!
I'll google them...it's probably one I've already looked up but if you have experience with using it and it actually works...I'll go back and look at them again. What I'd really like to get is a SHOCK collar for the dog owner!!!
