Nv4500

I bought a 1992 W350 for a trans swap. Found out it has a 4500 swapped in. The guy just used the 4500 and everything else is stock getrag(bellhousing, clutch, adapter plate and starter). Is there anything wrong with this? the truck shifts nice and smooth clutch disengages properly. I read another post saying you need the 2nd gen bellhousing and adapter. Any input would be appreciated before I start to swap over from a 518. Thanks

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't believe the Getrag bellhousing will bolt to the NV4500, so at the very least you should have a different bellhousing. The stock bell for the NV4500 requires the second gen plate because of depth issues, so . . . I would guess you likely have an Advance Adapters bellhousing in there if you're sure it's the stock adapter plate.

If it shifts and drives smooth though, you're good to go . . . .

You may want to double check the bellhousing to make sure it is not an AA conversion one. That's what I have been running for the last 5 years.

If you bought the truck to swap in your other truck, you already have all the parts needed if it's in and working well. The last guy did all the leg work for you already sourcing parts, etc. If he used Advanced Adapter's (AA's) kit, then he utilized the 1st gen starter, hydraulics, and bell housing. If he didn't, then he has a 2nd gen bellhousing, starter, and at least a 2nd gen slave cylinder (maybe the master too, I'm not sure). Either way, you lucked out and it sounds like you're good to go!

Ive machined a getrag bellhousing to work with an NV before. It can be done.............though I too bet its an AA housing.

Mine has a plate. It just makes the getrag bellhousing adapt to the front of the NV. It goes between the bellhousing and the trans.
I'm gonna be taking out the NV soon to reseal the thing and go through all of the preloads. I'll make sure to get pics and mesurement for you guys!

Looked over the bellhousing and found A/A on the side so now I just need time to swap everything over. Thanks for the replies.
