Well I did it... Now what!? A couple questions
Hey Guys,
I did it, as in traded my SRT-10 for a Cummins truck. A local dealer I had talked to a couple weeks back called me up since they were getting the truck I wanted in on trade. A single cab 4wd 6 speed. Its an 05 with only 41k miles on it. I freakin love it! The SRT-10 was cool, but this feels like a REAL truck! Now a couple questions. The exhaust is already straight piped, and after looking around under the truck, it looks like its 4 inch already (stock down pipe to). Why do they sell 4" turbo back exhausts for trucks up to 06 when its already 4"? At what point do I need to consider 5"? My planned mods at this point are an intake, tuner (probably a smarty!!!) and a lift pump/filter setup from Glacier diesel (and gauges obviously). Will the 4" thats on there flow enough for those kinds of mods? Thanks for all the imput as usual!

Winner winner chicken dinner!
4" is plenty for most and for what you intend to do, 5" sounds a little deeper but can lead to drone. I bought my 4"SS for the looks, couldnt stand the black exhaust, then I changed to stacks. Its all in what you want. Sounds like you have all the basics for a real nice truck, good luck and welcome to the dark side.

well exhaust companies claim a 200 deg drop in egts and ive never seen that.
I run 5" to get away from the raspy tone of the 4". I dont hate it but just like to be different. I like the deep tone of the bigger pipe and I just think the truck looks better with the big pipe on it. its all in what you want like rye said.
you can get alot of power out of that truck with 4". just when you start buying mods exhaust is a cheap mod compared to pumps, turbos, etc

I know if I go real crazy with the level of tune with a smarty, it will slip the clutch... Will I be able to get away with a little higher level tune than a heavier crew cab truck? I didn't know how much difference it would make having a lighter truck. I don't know what my truck weighs but I'm assuming its lighter than a crew or megacab...

I hear all the time that the stock 4" (pipe - not muffler of course) is good for 500-550hp+ and I can believe it but I sure like the look and deeper sound of my 5". Plus if I can get enough water and fertilizer on the money tree out in the backyard I can get crazy and have more than enough exhaust to handle it.

ok i'm running the mods you list with a 4" mbrp exhaust i do not have any problems with egt's yet but i have replaced the muffler which is probably all you need to get started save your extra money for a clutch your going to want one soon.

Its straight piped already, but I'm thinking about some kind of straight through muffler for it, its sort of loud... I sounds great but I'm not interested in getting excesive vehicle noise tickets... Cops around here love to give them out.

Nice trade.
Is yours a G56 or NV5600?
Got any pics yet.
Companies sell stuff because they make $$$$.
I like the idea of a single cab 05 w/ a 6speed.
I think a nice single 6" stack would look killer in that long bed.
You'd be suprised what a stock clutch can take. Just because it slips doesnt mean you need to run out and get a DD. My stocker has been slipping for over a year now and it doesnt really ever effect me because ive learned to drive w/o it slipping even during a 70-100mph blast
My stock clutch will hold max power just as long as you wait for your boost to come up before you go WOT. I have Smarty/mp8 stack w/ a silverbullet and have dynoed at 430hp and 830TQ and took it to the track all on the SW#9 + pressure.

SimplySMN: I'm in the midwest... St.Louis MO. MY car was 2332 with 48 IDAs and ran 12s on pump gas before the turbo setup... I loved the carbs but take my advice... GO TURBO!!! When it spools up for the first time you wont be able to slap the smile off your face!!!
SSS: I think its a G56... I test drove a '03 six speed and it had a different shift pattern then mine (reverse was up and all the way right). Mine is down and to the left. I would do a stack (I had a 5" on my Ford Superduty) but when hauling crap around I ended up melting stuff on it when I slammed on my brakes and stuff moved. Kind of a pain, I think I'm going to keep it under the truck this time. I love the single cab, weighs a little less, and really is very roomy for a single cab truck. I don't have any kids so what do I need a crew for? What did you run with your mods? I'm glad I held out for the "600" engine, this thing is noticeably faster than the '03 I drove! I'll try and post up some pics later.

I think it shifts nicer than the "race" T-56 in the Viper truck... That thing was hard to get into gear and the gates were very narrow (I hit 1st on the highway racing a Trans Am when trying to shift to third... OUCH). I cant wait to get a programmer on this thing... I've got an AFE intake on its way from a forum member too. SSS, seems like you were trying to talk me OUT of getting a 6 speed... I drove an 05 auto and I about fell asleep!!! I love rowing the gears in this thing!
