Depending on what turbo it is, if its like a h1c or hx35, you can just separate the two housings- compressor and exhaust, install them back with the oil drain down. Then you'll probly have to 'clock' the compressor housing. Some c housings will have a big snap ring holding it in place or a big clamp, loosen it and what I did with a hx40 just used a rubber mallet and beat on it til I got it rotated where I wanted it. BTW I had the same problem with my hx40, oil supply down, oil drain up and compressor outlet facing the wrong direction. Separated the two housings, reinstalled, the clocked the c housing.
What Bill said is true, pretty much every turbo out there can be reclocked easily. The oil drain MUST be pointed down, and the return line has to be at least 5/8" ID or oil will back up and leak out the shaft seals. Also, the crankcase or oil tank must be well ventilated, any pressure will cause the same problem.
