BuzHall, welcome, give us all a signature of your truck if you would. Is the converter single or triple disc, That seems to be a bulk of tranny repairs, along with the in/output shafts. See what all he is going to do for you, then shop the different vendors out there. Search around, make it a one time investment

Trans probs
I have a 2004 4X4 4 door Diesel, K&N intake kit, some exhaust work.Transmision is 48Re automatic transmission that slips.I have shopped around quite a bit.The parts manager at a local dealer gave me a quote for them to replace the transmiiision for 3500.00 that would include 3 yr 80,000 mile warranty. He also recommended this guy to me.This truck came out of Texas, i reckon that whoever owened it before maybe hauled cattle or sumthin.there was no gooseneck hitch installed but i installed a b&w turnover hitch and have used it.I also must assume that he or she never serviced the transmission.if you have a dodge truck you really outta have your trans serviced regular cause they wont last otherwise.back to my question what will a shift kit do for me and does the torque converter really need to upgraded to heavy duty?I mean i bought the truck thinkin it was heavy duty.I do alot of hauling and pulling with business.TY
Well buzhall the shift kit will increase trans fluid pressure which will help with slippage and also change the shift pattern along with a few other things. The TC is a good investment I would personally go with a Goerend Bros and done like dinner. Check into whole Goerend tranny and no problems for a very long time, hope this helps.
hi
the transgo tfod -diesel kit will firm up the shifts and allow fluid flow in park soo you can sleep in the cab and let er run all night without worring about trany gettin burnd up ! or any other long idel times like warming up ,ect, ect !
do it !
it will increase clutch and band life and your towing capasidy without slipping the clutches between gears , do it !
a lower stall convertor is what you want for better fuel economey , stock ones are too hi stall ! tell him lower stall speed is what you want !

$1400 seems a little cheap; that just covers a tripple disk and MAYBE a valve body. Even with a good single disk (around $650), he is working pretty cheap. Make sure you get a converter with a billet cover- thats a good start. lots of good info on this site.
