Transmission service around Boise, Idaho
Looking for a reputable private shop to do transmission service on my 06 with 48RE automatic. What transmission fluid is commonly used at private shops?

I've heard nothing but very positive feedback about Ultimate Transmission in Boise. http://ultimatetransmission.com/Home_Page.html

I think that ATF-4 is a copyrighted brand name. I think there is a list floating around somewhere of other manufactures that have been approved by Dodge to use the ATF-4 name once their fluid was proven to meet Dodge's spec's.

The licensing agreement for ATF+4 requires that no matter who makes or blends the fluid, it must be manufactured with the same additive package.
The only difference is in the base oil. It has to be a (Group III); however, there are three approved suppliers. One blender may use base oil from supplier A and another may use base oil from supplier B. As I mentioned, there can be no deviance in the additive package. There is only one approved ATF+4 additive package and it is manufactured by Lubrizol. Every licensed blend has to use it. Thus, no matter what name is on the label, whether it's Valvoline, SuperTech or any other on the CQA list. If it's a licensed blend the fluid in the bottle is chemically the same.
