Question Transmission Parts

I have been looking at buying a full transmission from one the major builders, but was wondering if I could save money by having a local builder put it together. I got to thinking about it after I added up some of the DTT parts.
Torque Converter = $975
Valve Body = $450
Update Kit = $295
Total = $1720 versus $3600 for a full DTT
I know I have to be missing something. Has anyone else done this? Any suggestions. I am kind of leaning towards a Goerend Transmission. Simply trying to make an informed decision.
Thanks

I do trans work and that sounds about right for the high pro parts, you need a billet input shaft because you will snap the factory one under heavy load, The older dodge auto's suck *** because they don't work like the ford's electronically, the newer dodge's have the system resolved.

What the biggest problem is that the converter doesn't lock early enough but you also need good power to pull through the lock- up. Take you truck for a ride turn off OD and put it to the floor it will lock up at 30mph and you will notice your truck just got faster . the press the od again and it's it OD.

The problem is you need to get the system to work like that all the time because when you put OD back on it unlocks the shifts and locks again. They make TCC controllers to fix this!!

The valve body I can do for you if you just want a upgrade. I had a suncoast valvebody apart and they re route everything so you can downshift the trans while in lock up still which the factory can't do----But seriously i pull about 8K sometimes and i have enough power to stay in the same gear all the time,

Tha converter a definite if you do the controller. It's a good trans just needs a little fine tuning!!

The parts you listed is not a complete list of the parts used in the full DTT. Add in the rest of the parts and you will close the gap considerably. The already built full DTT will, of course, still be more since they don't work for free.

The labor involved in just doing the update kit is well over a few hours.

First off I live in Texas. Second I am wondering if I need a "full" DTT or just certain parts. I also have a local transmission guy that I know that is willing to give me a good deal on labor.

Maddam Cleo maybe your best answer on this. My reply would be why do it right the first and deny yourself getting to do it/pay for it again?
Their transmission is a relationship of all the parts working together, not just certain parts. If all it takes is a local transmission guy and some parts, I wonder why nobody else has had this idea?

Big Blue reported here how great thier valvebody was. I knew right away his tranny was on borrowed time. But then again he got that valvebody out of the way.

Good luck to you Austin which ever way you go.
