trans trouble
Sorry, but I just don't understand autos. I got code 1763, gov pressure high. I understand from searching here to replace both sensor and solenoid. Will do. The symptoms are sometimes when I come to a stop, it feels like I get pushed a couple extra feet. When that happens, I either have low power or feels like it's slipping just slightly to get going again. What is actually happening inside there when that happens? Does that sound like gov press, or just the limp mode from getting code?
I'm tempted to put a better valve body in during this repair, but don't want to create new problems. Do people have success with a good VB, on an otherwise stock trans. I can't do the whole trans/TC right now. 135k miles now, fluid and filter done at 100k, dealer said bands didn't need adjusting at the time. Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like you are definetly in limp mode. Try to not drive the truck if you can, those third gear starts are very hard on things! There are a few companies making updated gov solenoid kits that use a GM solenoid. The GM solenoid works better and lasts longer especially for guys running increased line pressure from valve body mods. There is also a kit that includes an adjustable solenoid so you can tailor your line pressures to your specific needs. You would need a pressure gauge and a little bit of patience if you decided to go this route! At the mileage you are at I would just fix the current problem. Adding a valve body may actually magnify other issues your transmission has, but is not showing yet. Better start saving your pennies though, a rebuild is in your future at some point.

Finally got it in the shop. They found a chafed wire, but said everything else checked fine. The truck isn't throwing any codes now, but it still isn't right. I recleaned the battery terminals and grounds and reset the APPS. Sometimes when I put it in drive, I get 3rd, and sometimes I get 1st. I get 1st if I put it in 1st, and sometimes it fails to downshift when I stop. I'd like to get this figured out before I get a new trans. Does this sound mechanical or electrical? I'd hate to have my truck do this to the next trans too.

Still sounds like gov pressure solenoid and switch. Change them both out and your problems will go away. Not a hard job - just messy as you have to drop the pan and valve body. I had the same symptoms around 85k. Find a tranny shop that will sell you the parts, they aren't expensive (unless you get them from Dodge). You'll pay a shop a couple hundred to do the work. I'd recommend manually downshifting until you get it fixed, starting out in high gear is going to kill the rest of the tranny.
