I'm gonna bet your over-heating that tranny.

I have a couple of questions.

1. Where is the tranny temp sensor located (where did you put the sender)?
2. Did you say that the light came on when you were working the trailer or parking?

The only times my tranny on the 98 ever got above 210-220 was parking my boat for about 15 minutes after climbing a hill while NOT in TC lock-up. On a HOT day. My guess is you might have your sensor too far back into the system for an "actual" reading, rather....a delayed temp reading. That may be while it's not getting hot enough to read acurately. Most people--including me, put that sensor in the heat exchanger side. That would be BEFORE your pan.

ie.. hot tranny out---heat exchanger in (inside your engine)---out to your radiator---down into your pan. (repeat)

removed plug at passenger side in the back right above the pan.same as done in diesel power mag.so i asume this is the right place.slow step manuvers forward or revese it happens.few days ago light came on with no traler while backing a step drive way.about 50 yards or so.

Man, maybe it IS in the right place.

Unless your low on fluid....? I don't know... Maybe someone with more exp will chime in. You've given some great details. Beats me.

Try replacing your gauge with a cheapo to verify it works. I have had trouble with more than one brand new Autometer gauge. Sometimes they're just "sticky" and won't read accurately.

Are you backing up a incline with a trailer? Backing the boat up my driveway will increase the transmission temperature 30 degrees easly. I have tried 4low and still does the same. See my gallery, the driveway is not long. May have to let the truck sit an cool if that was the problem...Just my thoughts.
