Tranny,tow= jerking?
Just got back from a 900 mile hunting trip. Had a Sportsman 700 and gear in the back and towed an old 25' travel trailer. Running 70 mph and on flat land or downhill no problem, going up hills it jerks every 15-30 seconds like when you take off from a stop with a uhaul trailer with the surge thing. Doesn't matter if it was in CC or not and if in TH or not, always did it.
Any ideas?
I also only got 11-12 mpg.

Watch the tackomater. Does the rpm pickup 100 rpm then go back to normal after jerk. If so its going out and then back in to torque converter lockup. This will take out the torque converter clutches sooner or later. Usually a reflash will fix it .

The mpg figure is easily accounted for by the driving speed of 70 mph. Mine will get significantly less mpg when towing at 70 mph and above compared to holding it at 65 mph and below. But 11-12 mpg is not bad for towing--especially at that speed. I can't help with the surging problem.

I never looked at the tack but it did it alot and I posted before but when in town sometimes the motor makes a loud roar when taking off and it doesn't have any power, other times when it is quiet like normal it has all kinds of power. Does it towing, empty, hot ,cold, etc so could that also be TC and would it show a code?
It also has a new noise at idle like a radio or fan on but I can't find anything that is on and if I shut off the motor and turn on the key the noise is gone. Could it be the fan clutch? When I came off the mtn loaded (temp in the teens) the temp guage showed 140 degrees until I got to the hiway (30 minute run) and took off then it came back up to normal.
Truck now has 4700 miles.

11-12 towing 70 mph is great. Want better mpg you need to slow down. Some of the older brake controllers that were pendalum operated would activate the brake [quick on/off] with rough road conditions or trailer bucking.......JIM

Tranny fluid looks and smells fine and I have a Prodigy brake controller. It was not the trailer, just that is the best way to describe what it was doing and it did it on every long steep hill for over 400 miles each way.
